Biography and Education
Biography
Dr. Preetha Shridas earned her BSc in Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Nutrition & Dietetics (Triple Major) and herMSc in Biochemistry from Avinashilingam Deemed University, India. She received her PhD in Biochemistry fromBharathiar University, India. Following her doctoral training, she completed a brief postdoctoral fellowship atVanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and subsequently joined the University of Kentucky in Lexington,Kentucky, as a postdoctoral fellow in 2001. Dr. Shridas is currently an Associate Professor in the Department ofInternal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, at the University of Kentucky.

Research
Research in the Shridas Laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying chronic andacute inflammatory diseases, including atherosclerosis and sepsis. A major area of investigation in the laboratoryis the role of serum amyloid A, a family of acute-phase proteins, in regulating inflammatory responses andcontributing to disease progression.

Role of Serum Amyloid A in Sepsis-Induced Acute Lung Injury: Investigating the mechanisms by whichSerum Amyloid A influences the resolution of inflammation in sepsis, with the goal of identifying potentialtherapeutic strategies.

Role of Circulating Lipids and Lipoproteins in Sepsis Survival: Investigating how alterations in lipid andlipoprotein metabolism affect immune responses and outcomes during sepsis.

Role of Serum Amyloid A in the Development of Atherosclerosis and Liver Fibrosis: Exploring thecontribution of Serum Amyloid A to chronic inflammatory processes involved in cardiovascular disease andliver fibrosis.
