The curriculum is composed of the following elements:

  • Ambulatory rotations in general hepatology and transplant clinics 
  • Inpatient consultative service for general and transplant hepatology 
  • Participation and presentation in General and Transplant Hepatology clinical conferences, core curriculum / guidelines conferences and GI division conferences, tumor board conference, transplant selection meeting, hepatology journal clubs, Liver Radiology and pathology conferences
  • Participation in one or more research projects during transplant hepatology fellowship
  • Participation in a quality improvement project
  • Performance of procedures such as liver biopsy, paracentesis, endoscopy
    • The requirement for performance of percutaneous liver biopsy has been withdrawn by the ACGME as a requirement for ACGME TH fellowship, as of July 2023

Rotations

This 1-year transplant hepatology fellowship is divided into 13 blocks. Each block is 4 weeks duration.

  • Inpatient consult service for general and transplant hepatology- 6 blocks. 4 weeks will be with transplant surgery.
  • Ambulatory/clinic rotation in general and transplant hepatology clinics- 5 blocks
  • Research- 1 block. The fellows are encouraged to participate in research throughout the year and will have additional research time during clinic blocks.
  • Electives- This 4-week elective will include electives such as rotations in medical and radiation oncology clinics, interventional radiology clinics and procedures, abdominal radiology, addiction medicine and transplant ID.

 

* When on inpatient consult service and research, the fellow will maintain 1 pre-transplant clinic and 1 post-transplant clinic. 
* When on ambulatory rotations, the fellow will maintain 1 weekly half day of outpatient endoscopy with hepatology attendings
