Welcome to the Division of Hospital Medicine

The UK College of Medicine Division of Hospital Medicine at UK HealthCare exemplifies how hospitalists can lead education, research in quality improvement, and clinical care at an academic medical center. As experts in hospital-based patient care, hospitalists at UK provide exceptional inpatient care and coordinate the management of their complex medical issues. The division of hospital medicine brings together the significant academic and clinical resources of the University of Kentucky and UK HealthCare with a talented, dedicated group of hospitalists and staff.

Our more than 90 hospitalists include nationally recognized leaders in medical education, quality improvement, and health services research. Together, we seek to promote interprofessional collaboration and effective communication to improve the quality of patient care. Our patient-centered, teamwork-based approach is transforming care delivery aiming to provide the highest value to our patients.

Sincerely,
Joy Engblade, MD, MMM, FACP

Welcome to the UK College of Medicine Division of Hospital Medicine. Founded in January 2014 under the leadership of Mark V. Williams, MD, MHM, the division includes more than 80 physicians and more than 20 advanced practice providers, making it one of the largest divisions in the department of internal medicine. We are committed to achieving excellence in clinical care, quality and safety, medical education and research, and marching toward becoming a national leader in hospital medicine.

We provide patient care at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital, UK Good Samaritan Hospital, and the Markey Cancer Center, along with hospital medicine consultations.

The division is a leader in graduate medical education and medical student education, with our own hospitalists serving as internal medicine residency program directors. The recently developed UK Hospital Medicine Track demonstrates our commitment to providing focused training in the specialty of hospital medicine for internal medicine residents. Closely collaborating with the UK Center for Health Services Research, the division is also building a robust research program that aims to identify best practices in patient-centered health care.
