We provide patient care at UK Chandler Hospital, UK Good Samaritan Hospital and the Markey Cancer Center along with Hospital Medicine consultations. The Division is a leader in Graduate Medical Education and medical student education, with our own hospitalists serving as Internal Medicine Residency Program Directors. The recently developed UK Hospital Medicine Track demonstrates our commitment to providing focused training in the specialty of hospital medicine for internal medicine residents. Closely collaborating with the UK Center for Health Services Research, the Division is also building a robust research program that aims to identify best practices in patient-centered health care.

For Patients

Hospitalists are medical doctors who provide care to people admitted to the hospital. The University of Kentucky hospitalist group includes physicians who are experts in hospital care, advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNP), and physician assistants (PA). We provide clinical care for patients who are admitted to our hospital medicine services, and provide medicine consultations for patients who may have other problems such as needing surgery.

We provide clinical care for you throughout your hospitalization including planning your hospital discharge. Communicating with your primary care physician is a priority for us. We work closely with nurses, pharmacists, medical and surgical specialists, and social workers to deliver the best possible care while you are in the hospital and help you return home. We often work with residents and medical students. Besides clinical responsibilities, we strive to improve the quality of care in the hospital, optimize residents’ and medical student’s education and participate in research project to improve care delivery.

Advantages to Having a Hospitalist as Your Doctor

- High quality care.
- Efficient care to help you to get back home quickly when appropriate.
- Hospitalists or their partners are in the hospital 24 hours every day. You can be seen by your physician more than once and as needed.
- The hospitalist coordinates all your care communicating with all the physicians taking care of you.
