Internal Medicine and Pediatrics

Established in 1983, we have a long history of providing excellent education in internal medicine and pediatrics. The goal of our four-year curriculum is to prepare residents for successful careers in any of the opportunities available with combined training: outpatient primary care, hospital medicine, subspecialty fellowship, academics, and/or research.

With our incorporated children's hospital and expanding UK Chandler Hospital, you will have a wide variety of exposure to patients from across the Commonwealth. Our adult hospital is rated near the top in acuity of patient care. Training at UK will ensure you will be capable of taking care of patients anywhere after you complete your training.

One of the greatest strengths of our program is the strong work ethic and camaraderie of our residents. They are dedicated to creating a relaxed yet educational atmosphere while providing the highest quality patient care. They are frequently recognized for their excellence in patient care and education, receiving numerous teaching and clinical care awards.  In addition, over the last five years, four of our residents have been selected as chief residents in either the categorical internal medicine or pediatrics programs.

If you are interested in our combined training program at the University of Kentucky, please peruse our website. This is an excellent introduction to our program, and will hopefully answer most of your questions. Also, do not hesitate to email me or any of our residents with questions. We are always willing to help!

Good luck with the application process and we hope to meet you on the interview trail!

Chief Residents

Welcome to the University of Kentucky Med-Peds Residency Program!

We are excited to introduce you to our program! Our residents are a group of passionate, hardworking patient advocates who find great joy in perfecting our “well-roundedness” both in and out of the hospital. Our Med-Peds residents are chicken farmers, hikers, home cooks, comic book experts, board game whizzes, world travelers, dog moms, past olive farmers, marathoners, book clubbers, tequila enthusiasts, beer brewers, proud moms and proud dads. We love the work we do, but more importantly we love life too!

This doesn’t end with residency here, as you’ll find life-loving Med-Peds trained hospitalists, primary care physicians, cardiologists, intensivists, endocrinologists, infectious disease specialists and administrators throughout our hospital system. Having such a wonderful community of supportive residents and faculty mentors make the work part of our life just as lovable as the others.

Here at UK, we are lucky enough to live in a beautiful state, learn at a hospital where our patients need us, and get to spend four years of our lives working alongside wonderful people. It also helps that our physician leader, Dr. Stewart, is a fierce advocate for our residency program and allows us every opportunity to become the physicians we were meant to be.

We are excited that you are interested in learning more about us and look forward to meeting you soon.
