Internal Medicine and Pediatrics

Established in 1983, we have a long history of providing excellent education in internal medicine and pediatrics. The goal of our four-year curriculum is to prepare residents for successful careers in any of the opportunities available with combined training: outpatient primary care, hospital medicine, subspecialty fellowship, academics, and/or research.

With our incorporated children's hospital and expanding UK Chandler Hospital, you will have a wide variety of exposure to patients from across the Commonwealth. Our adult hospital is rated near the top in acuity of patient care. Training at UK will ensure you will be capable of taking care of patients anywhere after you complete your training.

One of the greatest strengths of our program is the strong work ethic and camaraderie of our residents. They are dedicated to creating a relaxed yet educational atmosphere while providing the highest quality patient care. They are frequently recognized for their excellence in patient care and education, receiving numerous teaching and clinical care awards.  In addition, over the last five years, four of our residents have been selected as chief residents in either the categorical internal medicine or pediatrics programs.

If you are interested in our combined training program at the University of Kentucky, please peruse our website. This is an excellent introduction to our program, and will hopefully answer most of your questions. Also, do not hesitate to email me or any of our residents with questions. We are always willing to help!

Good luck with the application process and we hope to meet you on the interview trail!

Welcome from Chief Residents

Welcome to the University of Kentucky Med-Peds Residency Program!

Our residents are a passionate and hardworking bunch who take pride in cultivating a well-rounded lifestyle, both inside and outside the hospital. As you explore our program’s website, you'll discover our residents' diverse interests and talents including parents, dog moms, cat dads, plant enthusiasts, gamers, hikers, avid readers, bourbon aficionados, and multilinguists.

In addition to our core faculty, our program is supported by Med-Peds trained primary care physicians, hospitalists, subspecialists, and administrators throughout the UK Healthcare system and throughout the surrounding area. Our large community of residents and faculty mentors is incredibly supportive, making our professional environment as rich and rewarding as other aspects of our lives.

UK provides a wonderful balance of working and learning in a busy hospital system, treating a diverse patient population from across Kentucky (and around the world), living in a beautiful city and state with plenty to do and see. We are fortunate to spend our four years of residency working alongside our program’s leaders Dr. Stewart and Dr. Wimberly, both of whom are graduates of our program and advocates for our residents and our program, giving all of us the opportunities to cultivate our passions in medicine and beyond to become the physicians we want to be.

We are excited that you are interested in learning more about us and look forward to meeting you soon!
