Internal Medicine and Pediatrics

Established in 1983, we have a long history of providing excellent education in internal medicine and pediatrics. The goal of our four-year curriculum is to prepare residents for successful careers in any of the opportunities available with combined training: outpatient primary care, hospital medicine, subspecialty fellowship, academics, and/or research.

With our incorporated children's hospital and expanding UK Chandler Hospital, you will have a wide variety of exposure to patients from across the Commonwealth. Our adult hospital is rated near the top in acuity of patient care. Training at UK will ensure you will be capable of taking care of patients anywhere after you complete your training.

One of the greatest strengths of our program is the strong work ethic and camaraderie of our residents. They are dedicated to creating a relaxed yet educational atmosphere while providing the highest quality patient care. They are frequently recognized for their excellence in patient care and education, receiving numerous teaching and clinical care awards.  In addition, over the last five years, four of our residents have been selected as chief residents in either the categorical internal medicine or pediatrics programs.

If you are interested in our combined training program at the University of Kentucky, please peruse our website. This is an excellent introduction to our program, and will hopefully answer most of your questions. Also, do not hesitate to email me or any of our residents with questions. We are always willing to help!

Good luck with the application process and we hope to meet you on the interview trail!

Welcome from Chief Residents

Welcome to the University of Kentucky Med/Peds Residency Program!

Our residents are passionate, hardworking patient advocates who find great joy in perfecting our “well-roundedness” both in-and-out of the hospital. As you explore our program’s website, you will find that our residents enjoy a variety of interests and have many talents. Amongst our crew, you will find bourbon connoisseurs, board game aficionados, several proud parents (to human and animal children), plant lovers, world travelers, cooks, amateur bartenders, polyglots, hikers, avid readers, athletes, teachers, a pilot, and a restaurant owner.

In addition to our wonderful Med/Peds core faculty, you’ll also find Med-Peds-trained primary care physicians, hospitalists, specialists, and administrators throughout the UK hospital system and surrounding community programs and facilities. We truly have a wonderful community of supportive residents and faculty mentors that makes our work as enjoyable as any other part of life.

UK provides a wonderful balance of working and learning in a busy hospital system, treating a diverse patient population from all around Kentucky and neighboring regions, and living in a beautiful city and state with plenty to do and see. We are also lucky to be able to spend our four years of residency working alongside Dr. Stewart and Dr. Wimberly, both of whom are fierce advocates for our residents and our program, giving all of us the opportunities to cultivate our passions in medicine and become the physicians we were meant to be.

We are excited that you are interested in learning more about us and look forward to meeting you soon!
