Visiting Scholar Program
Scholar Program for Exchange Visitors in Cardiovascular Medicine
The goal of this program is to provide opportunities for foreign medical graduates to observe clinical cardiovascular care of patients, gain a basic overview of the American medical system, conduct research, and develop skills in biomedical research. The experience should serve to initiate professional contacts for future support in international medicine. At the end of the program, the exchange visitor will be familiar with the latest technology in cardiovascular disease medicine, evidence-based medicine in practice, firsthand knowledge of the American health care system and medical higher education, advanced biomedical/health research in cardiovascular disease, and the latest technology. Exchange visitors will participate as observers with faculty mentors and other physicians in inpatient and outpatient settings. Each exchange visitor will attend weekly cardiovascular medicine grand rounds and internal medicine grand rounds (not offered in the summer months). The exchange visitor can also attend and participate in daily clinical and research conferences, lectures, and quality improvement reviews
The duration of these experiences will be determined by the activity involved.
Program
Short-term B1/B2 Observation Visitor Program (One Month)
Exchange visitors will have the opportunity to develop skills to help them compete for a United States residency position:
- Critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for clinical medical care/services
- A foundation for putting evidence-based medicine into practice
- First-hand knowledge of the American health care system and medical higher education
- Critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for biomedical research
Upon successful completion of the program, the exchange visitor will receive a certificate of completion. They may also receive letter(s) of recommendation from the faculty.

No applications will be accepted in the month of July. Please select your length of time wisely.
Program Fees
- Application and processing fee: $500.00
- Photo ID badge, which must be worn at all times
- Program fee: $1,500 per month to be paid in full on acceptance into The Gill Heart and Vascular Program
Additional fees for consular visa processing may apply. Check / COD will be the only form of payment accepted.
