Internal Medicine Fellowships Nephrology Fellowship How to Apply How to Apply ERAS Only The division of nephrology at the University of Kentucky uses the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application process exclusively. UK nephrology endorsed the "all in" participation in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) match. Requirements We require three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) transcript. Completion and passing of all three USMLE steps are required before the start of training. We sponsor J-1 visas for selected applicants. Training Training prerequisites include satisfactory completion of an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency, or an AOA-accredited internal medicine residency whose program has been pre-accredited by the ACGME. Interviews Interviews are conducted in August through the end of October. Lodging is provided for invited candidates. All applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Kentucky Medical License All nephrology fellowship trainees at the University of Kentucky must have a full Kentucky medical license. Accordingly, applications will only be considered from those individuals who meet Kentucky medical licensing requirements. Licensing Requirements Licensing Requirements Graduation from an approved medical school. All medical schools in the United States and Canada approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) meet this requirement. Other medical school education is evaluated by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure on an individual basis. United States and Canadian medical school graduates must complete at least one year of postgraduate training approved by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the National Joint committee (NJC). Graduates of non-U.S./Canadian medical schools must complete three years of ACGME-or NJC-approved postgraduate training that includes 12 months of clinical training. A passing score on the USMLE or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX), or hold a full license in another state or Canadian province as a result of passing a licensing exam. Foreign medical graduates must possess permanent Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification or proof of certification by an approved U.S. specialty board.
