Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Susan McDowell, MD
Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a health care specialty focused on restoring the health and functional abilities of people with a wide variety of acute or chronic disabilities. We offer services related to brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, acute and chronic pain management, amputation, work injuries, joint replacement, other spinal disorders and much more. In addition, we maintain a full array of services for the pediatric patient including neuromuscular problems, orthopedic injuries, and developmental delays.
Using interprofessional care, we treat the whole patient rather than just the symptoms. Our goal is to help patients understand their condition and provide the tools and resources to facilitate maximal functional recovery leading to optimum quality of life. Our faculty, resident physicians and facilities accomplish this goal through excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service.
The UK College of Medicine Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is affiliated with multiple clinical care sites including UK Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Clinic, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Shriners Hospital for Children. We welcome your inquiries about our outstanding opportunities for medical student rotations or our residency program. Contact our Program Coordinator Leslie Justice at leslie.justice@uky.edu for more information about our residency program or student opportunities.
I trust you will find our web site helpful in learning more about our department of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
