Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery
Welcome from the Chair
On behalf of our academic family, I warmly welcome you to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Centered in Lexington, Kentucky, among the rolling hills and the beautiful farmland of the Bluegrass state, this department is comprised of a community of compassionate clinicians, innovative researchers, and world-class staff. We find our purpose and our passion in improving the lives of those around us. We embrace the sentiments of Nobel prize laureate and Pulitzer Prize novelist, Pearl S. Buck, who said “the secret of joy in work is contained in one word - excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.” Since the birth of our program in 1988, it has been our joy to cultivate excellence in everything we do.
Under the leadership of our founding chair, Raleigh Jones, MD, we have established a legacy of cultivating excellence in our people, our clinical care, our educational programs, and our research initiatives. Our excellent faculty, learners, and staff are an engaging and welcoming community, and we are investing in their professional development, wellness, and success. Our commitment to clinical excellence is demonstrated through a patient-centered approach and delivered by a team of highly skilled fellowship-trained experts. We seek to expand access to care for every patient while maximizing quality, safety, and patient experience. We are cultivating excellence in our educational programs by providing our learners with an innovative curriculum and an immersive and comprehensive clinical experience. The research initiatives and NIH-funded research labs within our department are characterized by excellence as we push the boundaries of scientific discovery and translate innovations into patient care and community health. Whether you are a patient, learner, or provider, we invite you to discover the secret of our joy. That is, to cultivate excellence within and through the department of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. You can expect excellence here, as we expect it of ourselves.
