Residents in the UK College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery participate in a wide-range of regularly scheduled conferences designed to further resident education by focusing on issues concerning patient management and up-to-date treatment guidelines in a multidisciplinary setting.

Head and Neck Oncology Conference and Preoperative Planning Conference

Weekly multidisciplinary conferences including head and neck surgeons, general surgical oncologists, plastic surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, and surgical pathologists. These conferences covers all facets of management of patients with head and neck cancer, disease presentation, radiographic and pathologic findings, and staging with treatment planning. Cases are reviewed in order to facilitate preoperative management and learning.

Held monthly, Grand Rounds nurtures academic growth, public speaking skills, and collaborative learning among residents, faculty, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.

Monthly round-table discussion featuring resident presentations designed to: 

  1. improve patient safety and care
  2. improve personal knowledge base
  3. serve as board review material. 

These presentations incorporate several different formats, and Dr. Saini oversees the process.

Facial Trauma Conference

Conference with presentations on the management of facial trauma patients. Interesting trauma cases from the preceeding week are reviewed, with a focus on radiographic findings and management options. This conference runs every Wednesday morning.

Voice Conference

Monthly conference attended by otolaryngology faculty and residents along with speech-language pathologists.  Both neurological and organic phonatory disorders are presented and discussed with a focus on patient symptomatology, laryngo-scopic examination findings, and treatment strategies.
