Information on School Hearing Screening Follow-Up

If your child refers (fails) their school hearing screening, follow-up services for hearing evaluation are available at no cost to the family at the Kentucky Office for Children with Special Health Care Needs (OCSHCN). OCSHCN is a state agency working to help every child with a special health care need in Kentucky access the care they need.

An audiologist, who is a hearing healthcare provider, will evaluate your child to determine the cause of the failed hearing test. Sometimes the problem is due to an ear infection and other times it can be due to a permanent hearing loss. Either way, it is important that your child gets seen by a hearing specialist in order to ensure that your child’s needs are being met both developmentally and educationally.
