Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Research CHAMPS-DHH What will I be asked to do on the project? What does participation involve? Details of the Study You and your child will be part of the study for up to three years or until the study is expected to end in 2025. You will complete a set of questionnaires twice per year. Questions will ask about you and your child, including your child’s behavior, family relationships, your well-being, and feelings about parenting. You and your child will participate in short videotaped tasks such as playing together or drawing together. This will happen at the beginning of the study and once per year for up to three years. Your child will complete speech and language assessments with a trained member of our research team up to three times in total. About half of the families will also participate in “Family Check-Up” meetings with a trained parent coach, focusing on their strengths as a parent and learning about and trying new parenting strategies. If you are randomly selected for this group, you will have up to six of these virtual one-on-one meetings with a parent coach during each year that you are in the study. All activities will happen remotely, either by phone or video call, online survey, or mail. Our friendly staff will work around your schedule for any calls. They can also help find solutions to any challenges with online connections or devices. We want this to be easy on you and your busy family. You will receive up to $150 each year for completing research assessments, and your child will receive a small toy for completing each speech and language assessment. At the end of the study, you can receive additional bonuses if you complete all assessments. For families who enroll in the year 2023, their expected time commitments are: A table showing the time scale for the entire project, including time for parent and child involvement.
