Application Process

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in enrolling in an away rotation at the UK College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology.

We offer a diverse experience across all subspecialties in otolaryngology during our away rotation including:

Head and neck
Laryngology
Rhinology
Pediatrics
Facial plastics
Otology

You will get hands-on experience in both a surgical and clinical setting during your time with us.

Application Requirements

For information regarding the application process, please contact the National Residency Matching Program (www.nrmp.org). We do not have a firm application deadline, though applications received after Oct. 1, 2024 will have less likelihood of an interview offer due to the timing of when otolaryngology residency programs can start application review.

Applicants to the UK College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery residency program should have:

-Taken and passed USMLE Step I
-Taken and passed USMLE Step II, with a numeric score reported

There are four five-year, categorical otolaryngology - HNS positions open for the 2024 - 2025 academic year. Residency interviews will be Dec. 6, 2024, December 7, 2024, January 13, 2025, and January 14, 2025. Interviews will be conducted in person.

The department of otolaryngology - HNS wants your visit to Lexington, Ky. to be informative and comfortable. On your interview date, you will be given a tour of the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, including the main operating rooms, Center for Advanced Surgery, Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic, and Markey Cancer Center.

Otolaryngology Junior Visiting Student Grant Application

This grant is intended for junior medical students (M1-M2) at medical schools without an otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency program. The purpose is to spend 1-2 weeks shadowing in the clinics and operating room to gain exposure to the specialty at the University of Kentucky.

Any student that has an interest in serving historically excluded, low socio-economic, geographically disadvantaged areas in health care is eligible for a $2,000 grant to help offset the cost of travel and lodging.
