Center of Research in Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease
Center of Research in Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease (COCVD)
The University of Kentucky Center of Research in Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease (COCVD) is supported by a $5.7 million, five-year award (P30 GM127211) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). The primary activity of the COCVD is to identify mechanisms linking the epidemic of obesity to the high incidence of cardiovascular diseases in the obese population.
Research
The primary activity of the COCVD is to identify mechanisms linking the epidemic of obesity to the high incidence of cardiovascular diseases in the obese population. This research focus is used as a platform to develop promising junior investigators who serve as principal investigators on research projects that address timely and significant questions related to obesity and cardiovascular disease.
Research Cores
The COCVD projects are facilitated by services provided through cutting-edge Research Cores. Cores within the COCVD include the Administrative Core A, Analytical Core B, Pathology Core C and Energy Balance and Body Composition Core D.
Pilot Projects
COCVD at the University of Kentucky offers pilot project grants intended to assist investigators in generating sufficient data to be competitive for extramural funding in the research area of the relationship between obesity and either cardiovascular disease or COVID-19 or type 2 diabetes or cancer or neurodegenerative diseases.
