University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center

UK Chandler Hospital consists of 940 beds with four specialty intensive care units. Nephrology is a top-5 performing specialty at UK HealthCare. Our acute dialysis unit is located close to a recently renovated fellow workspace. UK Chandler Hospital operates a large continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) program with active quality improvement efforts. Nephrology also manages acute plasmerpheresis for inpatients and has intereventional nephrology capabilities, providing nephrolgist-led dialysis access and renal biopsies.

Veterans Affairs Medical Center

The Veterans Affairs Medical Center has 290 beds with two intensive care units. It also has a dialysis unit with eight chronic stations, four acute stations, and a capability of performing three simultaneous bedside acute dialyses. Both hospitals are modern and state-of-the-art.

Services and Experience

The program also includes an active transplantation service, allowing trainees to gain extensive and supervised experience in renal transplantation and immunosuppression.

In addition, the following facilities and services are available: modern invasive radiology service, diagnostic radionuclide laboratory, fully equipped laboratory services, a pathology department with a full-time renal pathologist, and onsite electronmicroscopy. A meaningful working relationship exists with all the surgical subspecialities including the departments of urology and vascular surgery, as well as the departments of obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and a team of renal nutritionists and social worker services.
