Meet the Chief Residents

Hunter Bechtold, MD

Curriculum Chief Resident

I am the Internal Medicine Chief Resident tasked with reviewing the curriculum content for our residency program. I am originally from Houston, TX, completed my undergraduate training at the University of Texas at Austin, graduated medical school from Baylor College of Medicine and finished my Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency here at UK.

I enjoy clinician education and taking care of patients regardless of their age. Clinically, I will work in rural primary care following my chief year. My wife and I have two sons, and we love Lexington! The four seasons never get old here, especially given we are both native Houstonians who grew up with the seasons of "hot" and "hotter".

Joe Crowder, MD

Ambulatory Chief Resident

Originally from Alabama, I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2018 before earning my medical degree from UAB in 2023. Thanks to family ties in Lexington, however, I grew up a proud Kentucky basketball fan. I completed a categorical internal medicine residency at UK and am pursuing a career in cardiology. As the Internal Medicine Residency Program ambulatory chief, I oversee the monthly clinic schedule and contribute to our ambulatory curriculum.

Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two dogs, playing golf, traveling, and watching sports.

Kathryn Fox, MD

VA Chief Resident of Quality and Safety

I am Kathryn Fox, the AY 2026–2027 VA Chief Resident for Quality and Safety. Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Kentucky before moving to Bowling Green to attend the University of Kentucky College of Medicine–Bowling Green Campus. I then returned to Lexington for Internal Medicine residency training at UK HealthCare.

I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding training, mentorship, and opportunities I have received at UK, which have helped shape my interests within internal medicine and support my goal of becoming a cardiologist

J.T. Henderson, MD

Inpatient Chief Resident

I'm the Internal Medicine Chief Resident responsible for inpatient scheduling. I'm from Paint Lick, KY originally. I went to undergrad at Transylvania University and completed medical school and Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency here at UK. My wife is a pediatrician and we have young twin boys.

During residency I enjoyed being a part of the program's Clinician Educator track. My career goals are to be an academic pulmonologist and intensivist and care for patients with cystic fibrosis.
