Community Outreach
Kentucky faces some of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease in the nation. The Gill Heart & Vascular Institute addresses this challenge by leading statewide initiatives through a comprehensive portfolio of outreach programs designed to elevate heart care, expand access, and strengthen cardiovascular health for communities across the Commonwealth.
A cornerstone of this work is the Gill Affiliate Network. This network includes 28 hospitals that partner with UK HealthCare to advance cardiology, vascular surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery services. Through education, training, program development, community outreach, and quality improvement initiatives, the network helps hospitals enhance the care they provide close to home.
The Gill Imaging Initiative also works to improve the state’s cardiac outcomes by connecting UK’s advanced cardiac imaging specialists with hospitals and clinics across Kentucky. Through this collaboration, partners gain access to expert interpretation of echocardiography, CCTA, and cardiac MRI studies, ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality imaging assessment regardless of where they live.
Clinical outreach further broadens Gill’s impact. Gill cardiologists travel to sites across Kentucky to deliver subspecialty cardiovascular care directly within local communities. These clinics increase access, reduce travel burdens for patients, and strengthen continuity of care in partnership with local providers.
Together, these outreach programs give the Gill Heart & Vascular Institute a presence at more than 65 sites statewide. This broad footprint reflects Gill’s commitment to ensuring that every Kentuckian has access to exceptional heart and vascular care.
