Hematology and Cellular Therapy
Welcome to the UK Division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy
The division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy is an academic unit within the department of internal medicine and a key partner for Markey Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Kentucky. We are leaders in the design and delivery of advanced care in classical and malignant hematology and are nationally recognized for our research. The division is also proud to serve as the institutional resource and collaborator for cellular therapies for other academic divisions and departments at the University of Kentucky.
The division includes disease-focused clinical faculty with national and international reputation, translational researchers, advanced practice providers, nurses, and clinical pharmacists. Together, we embody the triple academic mission: delivering outstanding patient care, advancing the field of hematology through research, and developing the next generation of leaders in hematology. Distinguishing features of the division include our close partnership with the top-ranked top-funded UK School of Pharmacy, the seamless integration of clinical pharmacy services, and our dedication to the training and mentoring of disease-focused advanced practice providers.
Our highest aspiration is to bring world-class, cutting-edge hematology care to the people of Kentucky and ensure that every Kentuckian has access to life-saving treatments and procedures, from stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy to clinical trials and precision targeted therapies, as close as possible to home. Our driving academic goal is to be a national beacon for research in all aspects of hematology.
Embedded in the Markey Cancer Center, with its network of affiliated sites, molecular tumor boards, multidisciplinary working groups, and translational science collaborations, the division is a sought-after destination for faculty seeking to practice and conduct research in a highly supportive academic environment, for trainees seeking to work with, and learn from, outstanding mentors, and for advanced practice providers who wish to acquire advanced knowledge and expertise in the management of patients with hematologic malignancies and complex blood disorders.
The division’s values (Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence) drive all we do, from patient care to research and education, allowing us to RISE and promote a culture where everyone feels welcome and we are all empowered to pursue our fullest potential.
Respect: everyone has a voice, is treated with dignity, and is given the opportunity and support to grow and contribute to our collective success in a meaningful and personal way.
Integrity: we stay focused on our core guiding principles, follow a rigorous work ethic, hold each other accountable, and build relationships based on actions that lead to mutual trust.
Service: we embrace our responsibilities to patients and families, to the institution, to our community, and to each other. We act in conformity with those commitments and obligations, with attentiveness, compassion, and empathy for everyone.
Excellence: we set the bar high and constantly strive to improve ourselves in patient care, research, and teaching through critical thinking, imaginative problem solving, rigorous science, and hard work.
