About Lacey Burke, MD
Hi, I'm Lacey! I grew up in Southwest Michigan and am the oldest of three siblings. While I am a Midwest native, I travel whenever I get the chance. When I'm not on service, you'll usually find me exploring outdoors or trying out local restaurants.
Professional interests: Caring for the unhoused and underserved communities, Addiction Medicine, Global Health, POCUS, High-value care in low-resource settings
Fun facts: I play the cello and am trying to join a community orchestra even with residency schedule!
Anything else you'd like prospective applicants to know about you: I'm happy to chat with any prospective applicants about med-peds in general, applying without geographic preference, and moving from out of state.
Career Goals: Undecided! I love acute care but also value the relationships formed in longitudinal outpatient settings.
Favorite restaurant in Lexington: Still exploring but I love the atmosphere at Kentucky Native Cafe, anytime of day.
Favorite thing about living in Lexington: There is a farmers' market on almost every day of the week. Getting around the city is usually simple and quick. And, there are so many different cultural pockets throughout Lexington. Altogether, this means that getting to know the people and places of Lexington has been easy, intimate, and fun!
Your go-to weekend getaway: Road trip or camping!
Dream non-medical career: I'd love to be a conservationist or a travel veterinarian! However, maybe on the side or in retirement, my partner and I talk about starting a foster program for senior dogs.
Learner Summary
What do you like about your program?
While I was initially nervous about coming to UK from out of state and not knowing anybody, I have felt so welcomed, seen, and supported by every person I've met. We have a strong med-peds presence in the leadership of both categorical programs, a thriving med-peds identity, and residents who genuinely care about you. I was looking for a Med-Peds program who valued me as a human while encouraging and challenging me professionally and I found that here at UK.
What are your hobbies?
Traveling, hiking and backpacking, cooking, doing my best to keep my plants alive, trying new restaurants and wineries, community festivals, running
