Thomas Wool (2023-2024)

I can't say enough about my time at the University of Kentucky. Also completing internal medicine residency there, I was already aware of the quality of training I would receive, as well as the collegial atmosphere and friendly and supportive learning environment created by every single attending. From the ability to tailor my schedule and electives to help me achieve my future career goals, endless research opportunities, diversity of pathology, and the chance to help care for some of the sickest patients in the country, I can honestly say I was more equipped to start independent practice than I could have ever imagined. When it was time to start looking towards Interventional fellowship, I never thought twice about applying anywhere else. As an added bonus, Lexington is an amazing place to live and raise a family.

Nicole Dexter (2024-2025)

I completed my general cardiology fellowship at the University of Kentucky in 2024, followed by my interventional cardiology fellowship there in 2025. Choosing to remain at UK for my interventional training was one of the easiest and most rewarding decisions of my career. During my general fellowship, I built strong relationships with the interventional faculty, who have since become invaluable mentors and continue to play a significant role in my professional development. The program provided exceptional clinical exposure, particularly in high-risk PCI, along with extensive hands-on experience in mechanical circulatory support, including Impella and ECMO. This comprehensive training prepared me well for independent practice.  Additionally, I began my interventional fellowship just one month after welcoming my daughter. The program was incredibly supportive and accommodating during this important time, demonstrating a genuine commitment to trainee well-being. I am deeply grateful for both the clinical training and the supportive environment I experienced.

Taylor Wood (2025-2026)

I had the fortunate opportunity to train at the University of Kentucky for my general cardiology fellowship. I knew how skilled our interventionalists were and how open they were to teach clinical decision making and procedural skills. I also thoroughly enjoyed how close-knit and supportive the cath lab staff was. Based on that experience, there was never any doubt that I wanted to continue my training here and further develop under their mentorship. I was fortunate to match into interventional cardiology here at the University of Kentucky, and the experience fully lived up to my expectations. Over the course of the year, the program provided a good balance of both supervision and independence, with progressive autonomy tailored to what I needed. Early on, there was strong guidance and hands on teaching. As the year progressed, I became entrusted with increasing responsibility in both procedural skills as well as clinical decision making. By the halfway point in the year, I felt like more of a colleague, with my input being actively sought and valued in case planning and execution. This really demonstrated the program’s commitment to developing me as a confident, independent operator by the time I graduate. Overall, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the outstanding mentorship with a clear trajectory towards autonomy. This is an exceptional place to train for anyone seeking to build cath lab skill and confidence in interventional cardiology.
