The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting and Postgraduate Course is an annual conference designed to enrich gastroenterology knowledge and clinical skills, as well as showcase the great work being conducted by medical professionals in the field.

This year's event will be hosted in Phoenix, Ariz., and we are honored to announce that PGY-3 Rebecca Aquino, MD, has been selected to present eight of her submitted abstracts as posters!

Dr. Aquino's abstracts cover a variety of topics in gastroenterology, including colorectal cancer, liver injury, and pancreatic disease. The abstracts will be published in an online issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology this October. She is currently developing posters to present in Phoenix.

Dr. Aquino received mentorship from faculty in both the internal medicine department and the gastroenterology division, with the attendings and fellows offering invaluable guidance, support, and encouragement during the early stages of her career. As she flourishes in the field, she notes that their generosity in time and expertise has contributed greatly to her professional development.

Alongside her mentorship, Dr. Aquino was shaped by the very research that she will present at ACG 2025. Research plays a critical role in advancing the field of medicine, and each of Dr. Aquino's abstracts challenged her to think critically and examine the literature with greater depth, often leading from one reference to another in a continuous cycle of discovery. Through this process, she developed a deeper appreciation for how research enhances both clinical understanding and intellectual curiosity.

Her research connects topics to real patients, both strengthening the learning process and contributing to the vast library of medical research which eventually results in advancement in patient care. She remarks that, "medical research is humbling because it forces you to see how much there is to learn and how much is yet to be discovered. It is special to be even a small part of something so great."

While in Phoenix, Dr. Aquino is especially looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues, engaging in meaningful discussions on emerging topics in gastroenterology, and sharing her research findings with the broader medical community.

She would also like to note that she has several fellow residents joining her in Phoenix, and extends her congratulations to them as well.
