Thomas Waid, MD, professor of medicine, received the Jack Trevey Award for Community Service at the Lexington Medical Society (LMS) Dinner Social at the Signature Club. Dr. Waid is a past LMS president and executive board chair.

The Jack Trevey Award for Community Service is LMS’s highest award. LMS named the award after Dr. Jack Trevey, a servant of all of Kentucky as a member of the State House of Representatives and the State Senate. LMS presents the Trevey Award to member physicians who demonstrate outstanding service to the community through volunteerism and/or service in state or local government. This award is not given out every year; it is only given when an individual has served their community in an exceptional manner.

Dale Toney, MD, past LMS and Kentucky Medical Association (KMA) president, nominated Dr. Waid “for the tireless advocacy that he has successfully led for the protection of all organ and bone marrow donors in Kentucky. Because of Tom’s tireless efforts, now donors are guaranteed medical leave from work and the denials of health insurance and life insurance that were occurring to donors as a result of their donations are being blocked. This in turn has led to a robust organ and bone marrow program in Kentucky and has allowed countless Kentuckians to receive their much needed and life-saving donations.”
