Ann R. Finke, MD, a nephrology-critical care fellow in the UK College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, was selected by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to serve on a task force conducting a major revision of the Common Program Requirements. The task force is expected to complete its work over the next two to three years.
The Common Program Requirements are a basic set of standards in training and preparing resident and fellow physicians. According to the ACGME, these requirements set the context within clinical learning environments for development of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to take personal responsibility for the individual care of patients.
Dr. Finke, a Lexington, Ky. native, received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Kentucky. She remained at the University of Kentucky for her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics.
During residency, Dr. Finke developed a passion for teaching and completed the clinical educators track, with plans to pursue academic medicine. The ability to teach students and residents alike was a motivating factor in her decision to complete an extra year as chief resident in internal medicine.
Looking to the future, Dr. Finke plans to practice combined nephrology and critical care medicine with a focus on transition of care in nephrology. She also hopes to remain at an academic medical center and continue to focus on resident education.
Congratulations, Dr. Finke!
