Sarah Vick, MD, SFHM, FACP, associate professor of medicine and hospitalist at UK HealthCare, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM)—a prestigious national appointment reflecting her leadership and impact in the field.

Out of approximately 65,000 hospitalists in the United States, about 18,000 are SHM members, but only 12 serve on the SHM Board of Directors. Dr. Vick now joins this distinguished group, helping to guide the future of hospital medicine nationwide. She joins fellow UK Hospitalist Joseph R. Sweigart, MD, SFHM, FACP, who was named the board’s secretary in 2026.

Dr. Vick earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at UK, where she also served as chief resident. She is currently an associate program director for the Internal Medicine residency at UK, with academic interests in learner assessment, feedback, and inpatient billing and coding. Dr. Vick is also scheduled to become the new program director for Internal Medicine this July.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the SHM Board of Directors, where I’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of hospital medicine while advocating for and supporting the trainees who will lead our specialty forward,” she said. “My growth as a clinician, educator, and leader at UK HealthCare has been foundational in preparing me for this role. I am grateful to UK for shaping my values as a clinician, educator, and leader.”

The Society of Hospital Medicine serves as the professional home for hospitalists across the country, dedicated to advocating for the specialty, promoting high-value care, fostering education, cultivating community, and advancing research and innovation in healthcare delivery.

Dr. Vick’s appointment to the SHM Board not only recognizes her outstanding contributions but also brings national recognition to our commitment to advancing hospital medicine and the health of Kentucky.
