The UK College of Medicine Department of Behavioral Science launched its White Coats for Black Lives Fellowship in 2021 to enhance medical students’ understanding of health disparities, political and social inequalities, and health care inequities experienced by Black Americans. 

The UK College of Medicine is pleased to announce that Meagan Schaeffner, MD, assumed the role of director of service learning on Oct. 1. 

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved the naming of the new Health Education Building as the “Michael D. Rankin M.D. Health Education Building.”

For as long as she can remember, Rashmi Bharadwaj, a third-year medical student, has been interested in medical advocacy work. To illustrate this, the Louisville, Ky., native shared an anecdote about an essay she wrote in the fifth grade arguing for increased health care access during the Haitian earthquake crisis. She said that was just the beginning of her journey to medicine. 

Sydney Shepherd and Maya Radic are second-year medical students at the UK College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus and serve as house presidents of the Appaloosa and Rhinelander Houses, respectively. In conjunction with house officers and faculty, they launched the “November House of Giving” initiative this year. 

This year, medical student ambassadors from the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus are visiting local elementary schools to participate in Sun Protection Outreach Training by Students (SPOTS).
