Learning Communities
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine utilizes a learning community system to ensure all medical students experience optimum professional development, career advising, and social connectedness and wellness during medical school.
Each medical student is placed into a "house" that bears the name of a breed of horse, honoring Kentucky's long tradition of horse racing. The UK College of Medicine hosts a variety of meetings and events for our learning communities to encourage teamwork, promote holistic wellness, and create a friendly, fun environment for our students as they face the challenges of medical school.
Our mission with learning communities is to:
- Foster a sense of community among students and faculty
- Develop students personally and professionally
- Provide academic advising, career exploration, and planning
