Flooding in Eastern Kentucky

On Thursday, July 28, historic flooding consumed a large portion of eastern Kentucky and the Appalachian region. Kentuckians in the affected areas will likely feel the catastrophic effects of this tragedy for weeks, months, and even years to come as officials assess the extent of the damage and continually report a rising death toll.

Ahmad Hakoum

Senior year of high school, Ahmad Hakoum decided to make a lifestyle change that would end up making a huge impact on his life. 

“I looked in the mirror one day and was like, ‘I’m super skinny. I need to do something about this,’” Hakoum said.

Jade Nicely

For years, Jade Nicely’s family told her that she shared mannerisms and an uncanny resemblance to her late aunt Chrissy. They also shared an interest in medicine.

Chrissy died young, before following her dream of becoming a doctor. As Nicely joins the UK College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus, she will pursue her medical career as a tribute to her aunt.

The UK College of Medicine is excited to announce that Diana Heiman, MD, professor of family and community medicine, has been selected to serve as associate dean for faculty development and advancement.

Dr. Rachele Yadon

Rachèle Yadon, MD, is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Along with serving on the faculty, she is a diversity and inclusion ambassador. In this role, she is charged with developing more equitable practices and leading these efforts in her department.

Jon Vincent is not a doctor yet, but he has played one on TV.

Vincent, an MD/PhD student at the UK College of Medicine, had early experience wearing scrubs in a clinical setting when he served as an extra for a recent episode of the hit medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy.”

lgbtq+ advisory committee

The College of Medicine LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee was established to build a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and trainees. Under direction of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the committee hosts social events, creates mentorship and networking opportunities, and more.

The UK College of Medicine is excited to announce that Sarah Hall, MD, PhD, and Eleftherios Xenos, MD, PhD, have been elected to represent the college on the University Senate.

The University Senate is the faculty voice in the governance of our college and the University and determines broad academic policies of the University. Dr. Hall and Dr. Xenos will serve as College of Medicine representatives for three-year terms beginning in August.
