After welcoming its fourth class of medical students during this summer’s white coat ceremony, the UK College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus is well positioned to help alleviate the state’s physician shortage. As such, a new leadership position has been established to address needs associated with a growing student body and expanding footprint in the region.
Holly Danneman, MD, a UK College of Medicine alumna and St. Elizabeth Healthcare family medicine physician, has been selected to serve as an assistant dean at the Northern Kentucky Campus, with a focus on faculty development and student advising. Her position went into effect July 1.
In conjunction with faculty from the Lexington Campus, Dr. Danneman will initiate regular professional development activities for clerkship directors, site directors, and teaching faculty. She will also lead the design and implementation of career advising for medical students while developing a system to track and ensure progress.
Dr. Danneman’s focus on career advancement for faculty and learners will complement the work of Assistant Dean Meredith Landorf, MD, whose leadership has been instrumental in overseeing and building the campus’s third- and fourth-year clerkships.
Dr. Danneman has served in key educational roles for the Northern Kentucky Campus since its beginning. She is a preceptor and site director for the Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM) course and acting internship in family medicine, as well as preceptor for the Advanced Clinical Medicine (ACM) course and the family medicine third-year clerkship. She will continue to teach ICM and ACM as assistant dean.
As part of the faculty, Dr. Danneman executed the development of the Northern Kentucky Campus’s student-run free clinic at the local homeless shelter. She will continue to serve as executive director of the clinic.
A physician with more than two decades of experience, Dr. Danneman serves as assistant director of the family medicine residency at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, a leading regional hospital system that partnered with UK to establish the Northern Kentucky Campus. Prior to this role, she was a hospitalist at St. Elizabeth. For 12 years, she was an emergency medicine physician at Compass Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Danneman has won numerous awards and honors recognizing her teaching including the Notre Dame Academy Women Making a Difference Award in 2020 and the St. Elizabeth Faculty Teaching Award in 2019. In 2018 and 2019, she was voted “Top Doc” for hospital medicine in Cincinnati magazine.
She is a member of the multiple national and regional medical groups: the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, American Board of Family Medicine, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Kentucky Academy of Family Practice, Kentucky Medical Association, and Northern Kentucky Medical Society.
Dr. Danneman is a Xavier University graduate who earned her Doctor of Medicine at UK. She then completed her family medicine residency at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, where she served as chief resident her final year.
