Four UK College of Medicine students earned top honors in the 2026 Lexington Medical Society Video Contest, which challenged medical students to create short videos aimed at increasing public awareness and understanding of important health topics.
Alex Antony Edwin, who will begin his second year of medical school this summer, received first place for a video highlighting the impact of sleep deprivation on health and safety. A longtime videography enthusiast, Edwin welcomed the opportunity to combine his interests in medicine and filmmaking. Inspired by his own experience with sleep deprivation and a resulting car accident, his video encourages viewers to recognize the critical role sleep plays in overall health and well-being.
Fellow rising second-year student, Sarisha Lohano, earned second place for a video examining how changes in the skin can serve as indicators of underlying health conditions. Her video emphasizes the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking care early.
Two students tied for third place.
MacKenzie Neal, a third-year student, was recognized for a video addressing common misconceptions about antibiotics, emphasizing their appropriate use and the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. Jack Leith, who will also begin his third year this summer, earned third-place honors for a video focused on atrial fibrillation (AFib) and the importance of recognizing symptoms and seeking timely treatment.
