Third-year medical students Joyce Achenjang, Nana Sarpong, and Samuel Crocker recently received the Spirit of Advocacy Award at the UK Health Colleges Student Diversity Office’s Inaugural Celebration of Excellence in Diversity Awards Reception. The Spirit of Advocacy Award is presented annually to a university group that has shown great leadership in the advancement of diversity and inclusion efforts. The student leaders accepted the award in recognition if their work with the UKMED Program.

UKMED is an annual recruitment program held in early August by the UK College of Medicine. The goal of UKMED is to attract pre-medical students from underrepresented populations to a career in medicine. The program helps students experience and learn about medical school first-hand, in preparation for the application season. Over a span of two days, participants have the unique opportunity to get a glimpse of life in medical school. They meet with current medical students, faculty, staff, and physicians and engage in a variety of activities.
