The Paso Fino Learning Community spent its April house meeting blending service and fun.
Together, students collected 150 cans of food and 36 packs of ramen to donate to their local community partner, reinforcing the program’s emphasis on service and community engagement. Each learning community is paired with a local organization, creating ongoing opportunities for students to connect their medical training to the needs of the communities they serve.
Learning communities are designed to foster connection, mentorship, and personal and professional development throughout medical school — creating smaller, supportive networks within a larger academic environment. Through these relationships, students build the teamwork, leadership, and empathy that are essential to becoming well-rounded physicians.
After giving back, Paso Fino students wrapped up the meeting with a pickleball tournament, trading a little study time for some friendly competition on the court. Moments like these reflect another core goal of the learning communities: supporting student wellness and building meaningful connections that carry through all four years of training.
