A new gift account has been established in the UK College of Medicine Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences to expand nutrition education for health care professionals in training across the College of Medicine.
The gift funds will be managed by Sara Police, PhD, associate professor of pharmacology and nutritional sciences and director of nutritional sciences education.
“I am deeply grateful to the donors who recognize the importance of nutrition in preventing disease risk and promoting healthy outcomes. Their generous contributions will be used to build out nutrition education for medical students at the University of Kentucky,” expressed Dr. Police.
But Dr. Police will not be doing this work alone. This initiative also creates a unique training opportunity for medical students interested in gaining curricular design and instruction skills while deepening their own nutrition knowledge.
The selected student will work closely with Dr. Police for an anticipated 18 months in the capacity of content design and creation, which might include writing text(s), lectures, conducting interviews, and/or test banks, based on biomedical, clinical and culinary resources. The team will also explore using artificial intelligence to integrate the latest information with applicable strategies and tools for tomorrow’s health care professionals.
