On behalf of the Office of Graduate Medical Education, the University of Kentucky College of Medicine is pleased to announce the selection of Mohammed Kazimuddin, MD, as the associate dean for graduate medical education at the Bowling Green Campus.

This newly established position is a response to the continued expansion of graduate medical education at the College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus located at The Medical Center of Bowling Green. Currently the College of Medicine sponsors eight residency and fellowship programs in Bowling Green with 70 residents and fellows.  The associate dean position will provide support for these growing residency and fellowship programs.

As associate dean Dr. Kazimuddin will serve as a liaison to the main campus GME office in Lexington and fulfill responsibilities such as chairing the Medical Center of Bowling Green Medical Education Leadership Committee; meeting consistently with program leadership; collaborating with GME leadership to create and deliver faculty development sessions; and implementing improvements to the learning environment, among other tasks.

Dr. Kazimuddin has displayed a strong commitment to the College of Medicine’s mission of training physicians in Kentucky for Kentucky through his assistance in establishing and developing the Bowling Green Campus, which opened in the fall of 2018.

His professional experience in education and clinical care spans nearly three decades, beginning with a residency in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He currently serves as assistant dean for undergraduate medical education at the Bowling Green Campus and director of fellowships at Med Center Health, the Bowling Green Campus’s clinical partner.

In 2002, Dr. Kazimuddin co-founded Western Kentucky Heart and Lung Associates to provide quality cardiovascular and respiratory care to patients in the South Central Kentucky region. Since its opening the center has grown to include 13 board-certified cardiologists, pulmonologists, and gastroenterologists.

Dr. Kazimuddin also is president and chief executive officer of the Western Kentucky Heart and Lung Research Foundation and Educational Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to research and continuing medical education.

Among his other leadership roles, Dr. Kazimuddin is a board member at Med Center Health and serves on its Medical Executive Committee, which he led as president in 2012. He also is a member of the interview selection advisory committee, the campus joint executive oversight committee, and internal medicine residency program evaluation committee. He serves as director of the hospital’s cardiovascular medicine fellowship.

Dr. Kazimuddin’s new role as associate dean officially begins Sept. 1. Please join us in welcoming him into this position.
