The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is excited to share that Abbigail Tissot, PhD, MS, has been selected as the assistant dean for students at the Northern Kentucky Campus. This newly defined position fills the vacancy left when Holly Danneman, MD, assumed the associate dean role.

As assistant dean, Dr. Tissot will continue the college’s dedication to ensuring an optimal experience for medical students. She will oversee local admissions processes, as well as the house system and implementation of the preclinical curriculum at the regional campus.

Dr. Tissot said she is eager to support the strategic initiatives put in place by Dr. Danneman, while serving the broad support needs of students at the regional campus. She said she will also enjoy building upon existing research and pipeline programs while bolstering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Dr. Tissot has served in key roles devoted to student success, particularly in health care and medical education. She was assistant dean and director of recruitment programs at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, through which she led medical admissions and pipeline programs within a student affairs and admissions department. She was also an associate clinical director and assistant professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Most recently, she completed contract roles in interim executive and clinical leadership. She is a licensed psychologist who specializes in treating adolescent patients with eating disorders.

In addition to her medical education expertise, Dr. Tissot is a clinician and seasoned researcher who has contributed to many publications, abstracts, and presentations. She is also actively involved in her community, serving with numerous organizations including as the president of the Pendleton neighborhood council, member of the Over The Rhine Community Council, and a volunteer to behavioral health organizations.

Dr. Tissot has also been acknowledged for her institutional mentorship and service, having received the University of Cincinnati’s Women in Medicine and Science “Lift As You Climb” Mentorship Award in 2019 and Staff Excellence Award in 2020.

Dr. Tissot earned her bachelor’s degree at Xavier University, followed by a master’s degree and doctorate at Kent State University. She completed her doctoral internship in Pediatric Health Psychology/Interdisciplinary Care at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, then a clinical and research fellowship in behavioral medicine and child/adolescent health at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
