Effective August 1, 2013, Dr. Darrell Jennings will step down from his role as Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education to focus primarily on his role as chair in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine including the department’s acquisition of the Medical Directorship of the State Public Health Reference Lab in Frankfort. This change concludes the transition which began in August of 2012 when Dr. Jennings assumed the position of departmental chair.

As one University of Kentucky graduate prepared to leave campus, she reflected on one of her favorite experiences during her eight years at UK — traveling to South Africa on a medical rotation.
UK College of Medicine student Elaine Patterson was accustomed to studying abroad, having traveled to Ecuador and Denmark while in college. However, there was one other place she had always wanted to see.
“I was interested in South Africa because my grandmother was born in Swaziland, and her parents were missionaries there," Patterson said.

Four students from the University of Kentucky have been selected as recipients of Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarships. The UK recipients are among 1,900 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2013-2014 academic year through the prestigious program. In addition, one of UK's four winners, medical student Juliana Odetunde, received one of only five prestigious Fulbright-Fogarty awards, which promote the expansion of research in public health and clinical research in resource-limited settings.

In the 2012-2013 academic year, the Medical Curriculum Office began the first phase of a two-year curricular revision which will result in a system-based curriculum focused on integrating the foundational sciences into the clinical context. This curricular revision is the result of a six-year planning process that brought together clinical and basic science faculty, students, and administration with the mission of creating a curriculum that will prepare our students to succeed in the complex world of medicine as leaders, problem solvers, team players, and lifelong learners.
