The University of Kentucky College of Medicine medical doctor (MD) program was founded in 1960 to provide innovative, high-quality education. The College admitted its inaugural class of 40 students and finalized the efforts to establish a medical center for the Commonwealth.

Today, the College of Medicine has more than 10,600 alumni who practice in all 50 states and make a global impact in 26 countries around the world. As we continue to educate physicians for the Commonwealth, the College of Medicine does so by promoting a diverse and inclusive environment that provides excellence in education, equitable health care, and transformative research to improve the health and wellness of Kentuckians and beyond.
