UK College of Medicine student organization, Medical Students with Disability and Chronic Illness (MSDCI), will host internationally recognized disability advocate and physician Dinesh Palipana, MD, JD, for a virtual speaker event on April 6 at 6 p.m. ET.
Dr. Palipana is an emergency physician, researcher, lawyer, and leading voice for disability inclusion in medicine. After sustaining a spinal cord injury during medical school, he went on to become the first quadriplegic medical intern in Queensland, Australia. He now practices emergency medicine at Gold Coast University Hospital and conducts research focused on spinal cord injury rehabilitation and recovery.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Palipana is a co-founder of Doctors with Disabilities Australia and has been widely recognized for his advocacy efforts, including being named Queensland Australian of the Year in 2021. He has also shared his story and vision for disability inclusion through widely viewed TEDx talks.
During the virtual session, Dr. Palipana will share his personal journey in medicine, discuss disability representation in health care, and engage with students in a Q&A conversation.
