The UK College of Medicine is sponsoring a brand-new event to raise money for the clinic where students and physicians have been providing free health care for adults and children for nearly 40 years.

The Salvation Army Clinic is a student-run clinic that serves residents of the Lexington Salvation Army women and children’s shelter and people without homes.

Miles for Medicine will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Coldstream Park in northeast Lexington. Participants get commemorative T-shirts and free race photos. The event, which will feature a DJ, promises “food, fun and fellowship for a great cause.”

Registration for the Kid’s Dash ends on Sept. 26. Sign up for the 5K Run/Walk or 1 Mile Fun Walk by Oct. 10 to get the lowest entry fees.

The SAC offers twice weekly adult clinics, monthly pediatric and ophthalmology clinics, free weekly tobacco cessation groups and free oral cancer screenings by UK Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Staff also helps patients sign-up for insurance, get established with primary and dental care and connect with other community resources.
