Rural Physician Leadership Program
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP) is an educational program housed in Morehead, Ky., designed to train future physicians and health care leaders to provide high-quality, compassionate care in rural settings. An important outcome of this unique, four-year medical education program is that graduates gain knowledge and experience necessary to work with civic and community leaders to improve the general health of the communities they serve. RPLP currently accepts at least 12 students per year.

Clinical Curriculum
Morehead Campus students participate in all eight of the core clinical clerkships during their third year – psychiatry, neurology, surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology. However, they get to experience these rotations in an underserved rural setting, giving them a unique perspective on practicing with limited resources. The fourth year of medical school allows students to pursue career-driven schedules with two acting internships and five elective rotations. Morehead campus students often take 1-2 rotations in Lexington or elsewhere as part of their residency preparation but others choose to spend their entire final year at UK St. Claire. The Rural Physician Leadership Program offers at five acting internship options and over 15 electives.

The one-on-one learning experience with attendings at UK St. Claire was powerful and unique...From faculty to trainees, it was a close-knit environment that I valued and carried with me when I left for residency.
