UK Hosts RAD-AID CEO and Founder, Dr. Daniel Mollura

On April 12, 2017, the Department of Radiology at the University of Kentucky hosted Daniel Mollura, MD, CEO and founder of RAD-AID International, at an Advanced Imaging Symposium open to the College of Medicine and UK HealthCare communities. He delivered an inspiring and thoughtful presentation on the status of Radiology in the developing world and shared the impressive achievements of RAD-AID in the fields of Radiology and Radiation Oncology.

RAD-AID International is an internationally recognized philanthropic organization that has launched successful projects in many developing and impoverished countries. This organization has tremendous support from leading radiologic societies (such as the American College of Radiology) as well large commercial companies (IBM, Siemens, to name but two). Some examples of the RAD-AID mission are development of medical centers, donation of mobile radiology centers and equipment, information technology help, and educational enrichment.

Many academic medical centers in the United States, Canada, and Europe have actively participated in the projects of RAD-AID. The University of Kentucky is proud to be the official RAD-AID partner of the Kazakhstan chapter!  The main goal of the chapter is to help the residency program at Kazakhstan’s main cancer center (Kazakh National Institute of Oncology and Radiology, Almaty, Kazakhstan) through educational enrichment (formal visits with multi-disciplinary seminars, advising on curriculum and research, self-study module development). The Kazakhstan chapter will also collaborate with other chapters and academic medical centers to contribute to global Radiology development. This partnership creates a valuable opportunity for Diagnostic Radiology residents, fellows and faculty at the University of Kentucky to explore the challenges of international healthcare systems and contribute to the education of other radiologists-in-training and practicing radiologists.
