The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is excited to share the winners of the fourth annual Mission, Vision, Pillar, and Enabler (MVPE) Awards.
These awards recognize individuals in the College of Medicine who have made exceptional contributions to help us achieve the mission, vision, and purpose of the college. These individuals help us provide excellent education, practice patient-centered clinical care, conduct transformative research, engage with the communities we serve, and enable the success of each.
Notably, this year, the education pillar award for faculty was renamed with support from alumnus Gregory Reynolds, MD. The award will now be the Dr. Charles H. “Chipper” Griffith III, MD Education Excellence Award.
During the awards celebration, Dr. Reynolds expressed his gratitude for Dr. Griffith’s lessons and mentorship over the years.
“The way I practice medicine is based on the foundations Dr. Griffith provided during my education and residency 20 years ago,” shared Dr. Reynolds. “I often think, especially in difficult situations, ‘how would {Dr. Griffith} handle this?’ and ‘is the way I’m handling this something that would make him proud?’”.
The inaugural recipient of the newly renamed Dr. Charles H. “Chipper” Griffith III, MD Education Excellence Award is Peter Akpunonu, MD, professor of emergency medicine.
The complete list of MVPE award winners is listed below. Please join us in congratulating these incredible members of the UK College of Medicine community.
