College of Medicine Names New Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion

Stephanie White, MD, MS, has recently been named the University of Kentucky College of Medicine’s new associate dean for diversity and inclusion. Beginning Jan. 7, 2020, Dr. White will assume leadership of the College of Medicine’s efforts to promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff. Her roles will include overseeing diversity activities that support the college, leading efforts to advance current diversity initiatives, implementing a strategic diversity plan that coincides with the college’s strategic plan, and collaborating with UK’s other colleges and offices across the University. Along with her administrative duties, she will serve as associate professor in the department of pediatrics, a role that will involve clinical service and direct patient care. Dr. White joins UK from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, where she maintained a clinical practice as an assistant professor of pediatrics and served as associate dean of diversity and inclusion. A member of the dean’s leadership team, she was an important architect and decision maker for leading teaching in the curriculum, supporting students, staff, and faculty, and planning the strategic changes needed to create a more inclusive environment. Through her career Dr. White has maintained involvement in groups that promote diversity, recently acting as an institutional representative for the Association of American Medical Colleges group on diversity and inclusion and as a member of the Academic Pediatric Association’s diversity and inclusion committee. She also participated in the Dartmouth College Diversity Council and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Diversity Taskforce, and she was the Geisel School of Medicine representative for the Kern Institute’s student diversity and women’s leadership and development workgroups. Dr. White’s experience and additional training through the AAMC Healthcare Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate program will be an asset to the College of Medicine. In 2019, she was recognized by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Honor Society and has been named among the Best Doctors in America. Before arriving to Dartmouth, Dr. White was assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Miami School of Medicine and an attending physician at Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of California-Santa Barbara and her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by her Master of Science in health professions education at the Rutgers School of Health Professions.
