Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship Curriculum Hands-on experience, scholarly growth, and opportunities to lead in advocacy
Curriculum Overview
The fellowship program is designed to have longitudinal clinical and research experiences. There is built-in flexibility to allow for customization based on personal interests.
- Year 1: Strengthen clinical skills through child abuse pediatrics clinical rotations (inpatient and outpatient), time at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), and Medical Examiner’s Office, in addition to 2 electives of your choice. Create the foundation of your scholarly project during 4 dedicated research blocks.
- Year 2: Continue enhancing clinical skills with CAP and CAC clinical rotations, as well as 2 electives of your choice. Carry out your scholarly project with another 4 dedicated research months.
- Year 3: Hone your clinical and team leadership skills with continued CAP and CAC clinical time, as well as another 2 electives. Finalize your scholarly project and prepare for potential publication.

Non-clinical opportunities
Fellows may rotate at the Kentucky Injury Prevention Research Center to gain knowledge and skills pertaining to epidemiologic and injury prevention studies. Fellows are invited to explore child advocacy work through participation in the Face It Movement, Kentucky State Child Fatality and Near Fatality Review Team, and many other partnerships.
Throughout fellowship, fellows will be given the opportunity to teach, providing didactics to medical trainees, lectures to non-medical professionals, and even leading workshops at statewide conferences.
