Benign Gynecology
The First Year
The first-year’s responsibilities include:
- Morning rounds
- Minor surgical procedures
- Selected major surgical procedures
- Post-operative care of surgical patients
- Gynecology consults from the emergency department and general medical floor
- MIS simulation curriculum
The Second Year
The second year resident gains experience with benign gynecology during their night float rotation and Baptist Health.
The Third Year
The third-year’s responsibilities include:
- Morning rounds
- Minor surgical procedures
- Major surgical procedures
- Post-operative care of surgical patients
- Gynecology consults from the emergency department and general medical floors
- Gynecology clinic
- Opportunity to practice laparoscopic skills in the MIS simulation laboratory
- Gynecology ultrasound half-day/week
- Gynecology Ultrasound ½-day/week
Chief Year
The chief’s responsibilities include:
- Supervision of Morning rounds
- Minor surgical procedures with the other residents and attending physicians
- Major surgical procedures with the other residents and attending physicians
- Supervision of the post-operative care of surgical patients
- Supervision of gynecology consults
- Gynecology clinic

Each year, residents experience five-week rotations through various services. As the resident progresses through the residency, the resident will have more independence and responsibility leading up to the fourth year, chief resident.
