Thomas E. Curry, Jr., PhD
Professor and Vice Chair
East Carolina University, 1983
As with all experimental research endeavors, the contributions that we make to the understanding of basic scientific principles is accomplished by a team of unique individuals. Each individual brings their own set of skills and personalities to the laboratory. The attached pages attempt to show not the scientific aspects of the people in the laboratory, but rather the personalities and outside interests of these individuals. In these days of mission statements, long term objectives, and strategic plans; I believe that those associated with my laboratory work hard, play hard, and live life with inquiry, vigor, and wonderment each day. Myself, I enjoy the out of doors, putting a few miles on my bike, and torturing all around with my guitar playing.

I joined the Curry lab in September 2019 after completing my PhD at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. My PhD research project entitles " Ovulation and corpus luteum formation: novel control mechanisms". With the use of bovine and human samples, my in-vitro work comprises siRNA mediated gene knockdown, miRNAs overexpression/ inhibition, gene expression and protein expression using qPCR, western blot, XTT assay. My research interest is endocrine function in female reproductive biology. Being in Dr. Curry’s lab have opened up a new platform for me to explore other possibilities in research area to be engaged. I am fascinated by the use of in-vivo and ex-vivo model of rat and mice follicle culture. Most importantly, the translation of this knowledge together with human sample studies concerning ovulation and corpus luteum, which focuses on the wellbeing of female fertility, persuaded me a lot. My wife, Asmita and I love travelling and explore the different part of the country especially the beaches. We enjoy movies and art.

Scientist II
University of Kentucky 2017
Hello! I joined the Curry lab in the winter of 2021. I am a graduate of UK where my studies focused on endocrinology as it relates to reproduction issues in the late pregnant mare. I took a position as lead scientist in a toxicology laboratory for a number of years, and am happy to be back in research where my skills and curiosity can be used to expand the knowledge surrounding female reproductive issues.
Carole Bryant
Research Facility Manager
I am a research technician in the Curry lab. I originally started at the bench but have now moved to supervising and running the lab which performs all of the sex hormone assays for the Hospital along with running assays for the lab. I enjoy the outdoors and have been actively involved with the Kentucky Lab Rescue which tries to find homes for abandoned Labrador retrievers. Mattie (in the picture) came from the KY Lab Rescue as did Dr. Curry’s dog Maui.

I am a native resident of Illinois, but the people, horses, and overall beauty of Kentucky captured a piece of my heart and relocation soon became my focus. I have many interests which include traveling, boating, reading, and spending time outdoors. I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Human Sciences and I am looking forward to continuing my studies at the University of Kentucky. While our research team is hard at work in the lab, I support their efforts administratively as they continue striving for the deliverance of optimal care for women in Kentucky.
