Good Shepherd Eye Clinic - Eswatini

Eswatini

MME is currently collaborating with Fight4Sight and Mercy Air (Switzerland) to provide educational support for young ophthalmologists and medical support staff in Southern Africa to provide greater access to quality care to the most disadvantaged and remote communities.

Country Population: ~1.2 million

Eswatini has only two practicing ophthalmologists serving the entire country, creating significant demand for specialty eye care services. We partner with the Good Shepherd Eye clinic, which provides care for a large portion of the nation’s patients and functions as a critical access point for surgical and medical ophthalmology services.

Through the University of Kentucky Global Ophthalmology (UK GO) Residency Track, our residents participate in structured rotations in Eswatini, working side by side with local physicians and clinical teams. During these visits, residents contribute directly to patient care in very busy clinics, assisting with evaluations, procedures, and surgical services while learning to deliver high-quality care in a resource-constrained setting.
