Surgical Retina Fellowship

The program is shared by Retina Associates of Kentucky, a private organization, and the University of Kentucky Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The parent institution will be the University of Kentucky. This program is split (50/50) between the University of Kentucky and Retina Associates of Kentucky with alternating rotations of three months duration. The fellow will attend certain Grand Rounds, give lectures at the University of Kentucky, and may be asked to supervise or participate in rounds to varying degrees. A portion of the time will be allocated for research activity, and depending upon the needs and desires of the faculty and the fellow, other outside rotations may be arranged.

All faculty members are board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. The retina associates of Kentucky employ five faculty members and restrict their practice to vitreoretinal disorders. The department of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the University of Kentucky currently employs six faculty members that specialize in retina/vitreous diseases and staffs an additional 19 full-time clinical and research faculty members in the ophthalmic sub-specialties of consultative ophthalmology, cornea and external disease, glaucoma, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, optometric/contact lens, and pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Therefore, the fellow will be exposed to different techniques and philosophies. All faculty are engaged in ongoing clinical research, demonstrated by presentations and publication in Journals and national meetings.

The applicant must have satisfactorily completed a residency program in ophthalmology. S/he must be eligible for and obtain a Kentucky Medical License.

The application must be completed in its entirety and returned by TBD to be considered for an interview in the fall (specific date(s) to be announced at a later time). In addition to the requirements on the SF Match CAS application, we are asking you to provide us with an updated Curriculum Vitae, and an official medical school transcript as supplemental application materials. Of the three letters of recommendation you submit online, one must be from your Residency Chairman or Program Director. Your personal statement, which is submitted on SF Match, must indicate what your goals are in relationship to this fellowship as well as your long-term goals. If you are a graduate of a foreign school, please attach a copy of your ECFMG.
