Applications

The University of Kentucky Glaucoma Fellowship will NOT be accepting applications for the 2024-2025 academic year via the SF Match service. We have already committed to a strong applicant and current resident, Dr. Garrett Oberst, who wanted to stay in Lexington for family reasons.  Best of luck to everyone applying to match in this wonderful subspecialty!

About the Fellowship

The University of Kentucky Glaucoma Fellowship offers an immersive clinical and surgical experience, with opportunities for teaching and research. We are a large referral glaucoma service committed to excellent patient care in an academic setting.

Our 2023-2024 fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with up to five faculty members, offering a range of experiences and approaches. Our graduates confidently manage challenging glaucoma and complex anterior segment cases.

UK’s outpatient surgery center, main hospital, and Veteran’s hospital are all part of an attached complex. Our central ophthalmology clinic was built in 2017 and is state-of-the-art. We transitioned to Epic EMR in June 2021. Our department also has several satellite clinics, providing experience in small-town Bluegrass and Appalachian settings.

We anticipate continued high surgical volumes for both glaucoma and complex cataract surgery. Current MIGs procedures include ECP, canaloplasty, GATT, iStent, trabectome, Kahook blade, and micropulse diode laser. Hydrus is available at Lexington Surgery Center. We anticipate continued additions such as Preserflo.

If you interviewed here for residency, you already know – the UK College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology is a warm, friendly department in a great university town. We’re supportive of each other and value work-life balance. We’re happy, and we want you to be happy, too.
