The nature of translational science -- the process of turning a basic science discovery into applications for human patients -- is inherently multidimensional.
Dr. Hatim Omar, professor of pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and chief of adolescent medicine and the Young Parent Program, was honored Nov. 8 by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) with the annual Regional Chapter Award in recognition of his ongoing dedication to the health and well-being of teenagers, both in Kentucky and around the world. The award is presented to individuals who are our "unsung heroes" who work with youth in our communities and other settings. Dr.

The University of Kentucky Pediatrics Residency Program is committed to achieving excellence in patient care and medical education at both the graduate and postgraduate level. We have a superb training program designed to give a solid foundation in General Pediatrics and prepare you for fellowship, a career in private practice or academic medicine depending on your interests. We are a referral center for eastern and central Kentucky and care for patients with a wide spectrum of acute and chronic illness.
There are several structured child advocacy groups and activities at UK as well as many opportunities to become involved with our local community groups striving to improve child health and wellbeing. Child Advocacy Day in Frankfort, AdvoCATS, and Child Advocacy Today (CAT) are just a few.
UK Department of Pediatrics offers pediatric residents the opportunity to participate in a Global Health Tract as part of their residency. The Global Health Track is a unique program designed to train physician leaders in clinical medicine, teaching, health policy, service, and research in global health. At its core, successful training in global health requires an understanding of underserved populations, health care disparities and advocating for these patients and helping them access community resources.

The Keeneland Concours Pediatric Simulation Center is an exciting new upgrade to the Pediatrics Residency Program at Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Through the generous donation of the Keeneland Concours Group, we have been able to purchase major upgrades to our simulation center. Our center now offers task training in ultrasound guided, central venous catheter insertion, as well as lumbar punctures. We currently have four high fidelity child simulators, three of which are tetherless.
