UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health and Kentucky Homeplace Recognized as 2018 National Rural Health Day “Community Stars”
(Hazard, Ky.) - University of Kentucky Center of Excellence in Rural Health (UKCERH) and Kentucky Homeplace have been have been recognized as “Community Stars” by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). UK CERH and Kentucky Homeplace will be featured in the 2018 book of Community Stars that will be available on the https://www.PowerofRural.org website, the official hub for National Rural Health Day and the Power of Rural movement, beginning November 15, 2018.
On the third Thursday of November every year, NOSORH leads National Rural Health Day, an annual day of recognition for those who serve the vital health needs of nearly 60 million people residing in America’s rural communities, estimated to be 1 in 5 Americans.
At the state level, Governor Matt Bevin signed an official proclamation to designate Nov. 15 as Kentucky Rural Health Day to recognize rural providers and community stakeholders in the Commonwealth who play distinct and critical roles in leading efforts to address unique health needs of rural citizens.
“We are honored to have an official Kentucky Rural Health Day proclaimed by our governor and to have the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health and Kentucky Homeplace nationally recognized by NOSORH as 2018 Community Stars. This is a timely opportunity to share the important work taking place to support the health of rural Kentuckians,” said Dr. Fran Feltner, who serves at the director of UK CERH and the principle investigator for Kentucky Homeplace.
UK CERH will celebrate Kentucky Rural Health Day and National Rural Health Day by sponsoring a research poster presentation session and presenting original research during the 20th Annual Kentucky Rural Health Association Conference in Bowling Green, KY, Nov. 15-16.
NOSORH is the member organization serving all 50 State Offices of Rural Health (SORH). In Kentucky, the UK CERH serves as the federally designated Kentucky Office of Rural Health (KORH). SORHs provide support to rural hospitals, clinics, and first responders in several ways including technical assistance, funding that supports workforce development, population health management, quality improvement initiatives, and more.
